A former military contractor who pleaded guilty in an Israeli court to a bribery scheme has been sentenced to a decade in prison.
Uzbekistan’s Tour Operators Association, which represents tour operators in the country, said on Tuesday that former US Army Lt Col Peter Hsu was sentenced to five years in jail for bribery and corruption.
The court in Jerusalem handed down the sentence, a statement from the association said.
“The court has found that Mr. Hsu has committed a crime against humanity and a serious breach of international law,” the statement read.
“He has been convicted of crimes against humanity, including bribery and fraud, and has been handed a prison sentence of five years.”
This is the first time that the international community has publicly convicted a senior US military officer for such crimes,” the tour operators association said in the statement.
Hsu’s lawyers had asked for a sentence of up to 20 and said that the charges against him were politically motivated and had no factual basis.
